BLS: HEALTHCARE JOBS STILL GROWING

The latest US Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation Summary says that although US unemployment rate is still at 8.8%, jobs are still plentiful in healthcare. Since November, many Americans have found jobs. The unemployment rate has tumbled from the November high of nearly 10%.

Health care employment continued to increase in March (+37,000 jobs). Over the last 12 months, health care has added 283,000 jobs, or an average of 24,000 jobs per month. The conclusion remains the same for employers in this sector as it has for the previous 20+ years: internationally-trained staff will remain a significant part of the US healthcare workforce.

  1. Still nothing is being done about it. I graduated from US Nursing school in 2006 worked for about 3 yrs on OPT and H1C. Now I have been jobless for almost 2 yrs because I don't have work permit. If you are not going to give job stop admitting international students in Nursing School and stop sucking money out of them.

  3. But i dont think there is going to be any legislation or provision of schedule A visas like it happened once in the past. If it has to happen then the lobbyist need to get together to get that done. Lawmakers need to approach the authorities responsible for making the immigration laws. Someone needs to drive this effort.

  4. @Razor- There have been efforts but the problem is that the US Congress is unwilling to pass any pro-immigration bills in light of the US unemployment rate. It may happen at some point in the future, but not anytime soon, unfortunately.

  5. @MU LAW - I partly agree with you on the unemployment rate. But at the same time the congress should also take in to consideration the areas in which there is unemployment. The 9.6 % unemployment includes all the profession within the US. I dont think there is any unemployment in the field of health care; at least not for Nurses and PTs. Let me know if I am wrong.
